Account FAQs
Why should I open a youth checking account for my child?

Opening a youth checking account early in your child’s life helps them develop a lifelong habit of saving, sets them up for financial success, and teaches them the importance of financial responsibility.

Where can I find the current rates and annual percentage yield (APY)?

Visit our dedicated rates page to view the most current interest rates and APY details across all account types. However, our Youth Checking Account does not earn interest, because it was designed to be a practical tool for teaching kids about money management.

Can I manage a youth checking account online?

Yes! You can easily view and manage your child’s account online and monitor their progress.

Can my under-18-year-old open a teen checking account by himself/herself?

No. They will need a parent or legal guardian over 18 years of age to open an account on their behalf. However, once your child reaches the age of 18, they can take full advantage of the benefits of being a Legacy Credit Union member on their own.

What kinds of fees come with this account?

This account has no monthly fees or minimum balance requirements, making it an ideally cost-effective option for young people.

How do I know if I am eligible to join Legacy Community Federal Credit Union?

Anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, St. Clair, Walker, Chilton, and Bibb counties surrounding Birmingham, Alabama is eligible for membership.
